The Oldest Millennial

Being the oldest of the "Millennials", I come from a place where hard work combined with curiosity and imagination could thrive. I have never accepted "that's how it's aways been" as a final answer until I'm explored every alternative. As a teacher, I have challenged my students and colleagues to accept and expect to be uncomfortable for in that discomfort, we grow. Perpetual comfort is not the norm. I challenge my political party, and I challenge myself to be a life-long learner who listens. As a local school board director I worked with a team that continues to be dedicated to honoring diversity and transparency, without banning books or micromanaging staff. I have been laser-like focused on structural issues that affect our working families, such as advocating for full-day Kindergarten and re-evaluating our district's walking routes, which has disproportionately impacted our lowest socio-economic families. Being named chairperson of the Cumberland Perry Career and Technical Center has allowed me to lead the Joint Operating Committee, charged with providing direction and opportunities for students in 13 different school districts. My agenda is simple. Give us a chance. Too many students are anchored with crippling student loan debt, so we have delayed independence. Too many grandparents are burdened with school property taxes while living on a fixed income. Give them a chance. This campaign is for the thousands of PA district 88's citizens who haven't been invited to the conversation, but it will be hard. As President John Kennedy inspired, we do things because they are hard. Let's show them our #BlueCollarGrit.
